VICE x Team:

The Senior Director – Europe will work closely with the People, Culture and Impact function, referred to functionally here as HR, globally and VMG senior leadership in Europe to provide strategic HR leadership and day-to-day oversight of HR function for the Europe region, (approximately 780 employees). This role oversees the offices in London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Athens, Belgrade and Bucharest, as well Copenhagen, Vienna and Zurich (in partnership with the global Senior Director – HRBPs for Virtue, our creative agency) The HR Director will report into the Chief People Officer in New York.

Role x You

In this role, the Senior HR Director – Europe will act as strategic business partner and coach to leaders across the region in all relevant people and organizational topics. Provide day-to-day oversight of HR function for offices across the region. Manage and lead the HR team in the market ensuring that we are building and executing the best HR strategies and services to attract, develop, motivate and retain talent.


  • Working with senior business leaders and the HR team in Europe, ensure that all aspects of hiring talent, employee relations, employee development, and compensation & benefits for all employees are delivered timely and in accordance with relevant employment legislation.
  • In partnership with the global People, Culture and Impact team and regional team members, lead the development of regional HR strategy goals and deliver initiatives that align to the company’s business goals (at the local, regional and global level).
  • Advise senior management on strategic and tactical initiatives impacting employees (e.g. reorganizations, performance management, talent development)
  • Lead and manage the European HRBP team, creating an environment that fosters their development.
  • Partner with the Global People, Culture and Impact team on matters related to Talent & Learning, Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, and HRIS in order to advance all people related aspects of the company’s mission, values and business strategies.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of global HR initiatives (i.e. salary planning, performance assessment process, training & development offerings)
  • Proactively identify improvements that are needed in Europe office policies, programs or work-environment.
  • Counsel leaders, plan for, and participate in performance improvement discussions and disciplinary meetings, including termination meetings as required.
  • Champion and model behavior to ensure the workplace is respectful, inclusive and professional. Develop and implement plans to address, and as necessary, promptly resolve any issues/concerns that are raised. If necessary, conduct investigations into any matters that may be a violation of VICE’s global and local policies, including company’s Respect in the Workplace policies.

In the short term….the successful candidate will focus on establishing relationships with the main stakeholders for this role, learn about the business while also starting to provide guidance and support to those stakeholders on ongoing topics in a mostly reactive manner.

But after 6 months in this role
, while continuing to develop their understanding of the business, the successful candidate will start taking a more proactive approach to the people-related priorities in the region and start to determine how these priorities will be approached by the European HRBP team as a whole. During this time, in addition to developing the relationships that were established with key stakeholders, they will also establish relations with other stakeholders.


You have these…..

  • Minimum of 10 years of well-rounded strategic HR business partner experience, including at least 4 years in leadership position
  • Experience working as part of a matrixed organization and partnering with CoEs.
  • Experience working in the Europe region and/or with multiple countries preferred.
  • Experience in handling complicated employee relations cases including unions and works councils.
